Belly Dance

 

Belly Dance classes are held Saturdays from 3pm to 4:15pm 

 

Referred to as “belly dance” in the West but most properly known as Danse Orientale, Raks Sharki, middle eastern, North African or by regional name (i.e. Egyption, Lebanese or Turkish dance in other countries), this dance is performed across the globe by women, men and families in social and entertainment styled settings.

Join instructor and performer Asali Naimah and other daring women as you learn to stretch, strengthen and belly dance away your stress as you improve your posture and general fitness level.

 

Classes are women tailored so that each participant can master the dance and find her unique sense of expression.  All shapes and sizes are celebrated in the art form so come as you are and join the fun in this safe, non-competitive and joy-filled learning environment.

 

Weekly Bellydance Workshop with Asali Naimah

Take a 75-minute oriental dance crash course with Asali Naimah.  Each week, learn different Egyptian and American oriental belly dance technique tips, combinations, instruments and dance accessories each week. Popular guest instructors also visit each month to cover a variety of dance styles and topics! All dance levels welcome to join this class and redefine fitness!

March 29 – “Mini Choreography to Learn How to Dance with Graceful Hands and Arms”

 

This Saturday’s workshop theme is where Asali Naimah will teach participants a short choreography that allows both learning and incoporation of beautiful arm movesments including snake arms, vertical arms, wrist circles and hand waves to embellish the beauty of your arms and hands. Bare feet or ballet slippers recommended. Students must work at their own fitness and flexibility level to avoid injury.

 

Saturday – April 5 “Learning how to create strong hip work and accents”

 

Add excitement to your belly dance moves as you learn how to create intriguing hip work and accents! Students will cover alignment, posture and technique tips and with knowledge of how to identify when  to use skeletal or muscular moves in the glutes and oblique’s to power your hip drops, hip lifts, hip bumps, pelvis tilts/ tucks and more!  We will also drill shimmy technique to build the strength and stamina to power all hip moves with precision!  Get ready to tone and strengthen your waistline, glutes, calves, thighs, feet, and ankles in this class. Bare feet or ballet slippers recommended. Bring a hip scarf to embellish the moves and prepare to sweat!

 

April 12 “Guest Instructor: Lisha Zaworski

 

Guest Belly Dance Artist and Instructor Lisha Zaworski former instructor at Arabesque Studios in Chicago will guest teach ad share her belly dance knowledge on how to use and understand usnig circles to embellish your dance. Stay tuned for more details...

 

April 19 “Crash Course Belly Dance Choreography to Truth Hurts “Addictive“

 

This Saturday’s workshop is where Asali Naimah teaches participants a short choreography to the fun song by Truth Hurts and Rakhim “Addictive” Students will learn how to create sensual moves and then put them into a short dance to perform for friends! All levels are encouraged to enjoy this short belly dance routine that includes basic hip and chest circles, slides, vertical arms, omi’s, hip drops and shimmies! Bring a hip scarf to embellish the moves and prepare to have fun! Bare feet or ballet slippers recommended. All students must dance at their own fitness level!

 

April 26 “Shimmy Max - How to build stamina to power and maintain your shimmies”

 

This Saturday’s workshop theme is “Shimmy Max!”  Bring a hip scarf to embellish the moves and prepare to sweat as I teach you how to build the stamina and strength to power and maintain your shimmies!   Students will drill strengthening exercises for their glutes, calves, thighs, feet, and ankles, and next explore how to create powerful stationary and traveling shimmies! Bare feet or ballet slippers recommended.

 

May 3 “Guest Instructor, Charisse Sissou (aka Zoh’ra)

 

This Saturday’s belly dance workshop will be conducted by the beautiful and Graceful Zoh’ra!  Bare feet or ballet slippers recommended.  More details to be announced!

 

May 10  “How to Create Belly Flutters & Accents Using Breath and Muscle Control Techniques”

 

 This Saturday’s workshop theme is “How to Create Belly Flutters & Accents Using Breath and Muscle Control Techniques” We often take for granted the power of our breath and the need for a strong core! In this class, students will learn sound techniques to produce belly pops, belly undulations and of course belly flutters!  Get ready to sweat as we work on standing and sitting techniques to strengthen our core and create fluid and sharp accents with the upper and lower abdomen.  Bare feet or ballet slippers recommended. Students must work at their own fitness and flexibility level to avoid injury.

 

May 17 - “Master the Serpentine Movements of the Lower Body”

 

This Saturday’s workshop theme is “Master the Serpentine Movements of the Lower Body!” Students will learn how to use the floor to create juicy, fluid beautiful organic movement in the hips.  Leave with an idea of how to create beautiful Figure 8 hips variations, the “Jewel step,” camels and of course “Omi’s”!  Get ready to wake up your spine, legs, hips and abdomen as you drill warm-up and strengthening exercises to lubricate and strengthen your hips, glutes, thighs, calves, feet, and ankles. Bare feet or ballet slippers recommended.  Students are encouraged to work at their own fitness and flexibility level to avoid injury.

 

May 24 “Guest Instructor, Erika Ochoa of Pineapple Dance Studio

 

This Saturday’s belly dance workshop will be conducted by the talented instructor and performer Erika Ochoa of Pineapple Dance Studio in Forest Park!  More details to be announced! Bare feet or ballet slippers recommended. Prior registratrion not required. Chaturanga class passes welcome! 

 

May 31 - “Mastering the art of the Belly Dance Drum Solo”

 

This Saturday’s workshop theme is “Mastering the art of the Belly Dance Drum!”  Students will learn how to execute moves, poses and accents with precision while performing to exciting drum solo rhythms! Bring a hip scarf to embellish the moves and as always get ready to sweat as you also drill strengthening exercises for your glutes, calves, thighs, feet, and ankles. Bare feet or ballet slippers recommended.  Students are encouraged to work at their own fitness and flexibility level to avoid injury.
